It’s official - the first rays of sunshine of 2014 have landed upon us. People have started smiling at each other in the street again and we have even tentatively stepped outside without a coat!
Here comes the sun!
Although the pessimists amongst us will no doubt be muttering ‘one swallow doesn’t make a summer’, we do have good reason to believe that we are in for a good one this year, with scientists predicting this summer to be the hottest on record! Great Britain loves the summer, and last year’s sizzler certainly gave us a bit of promise that this country could actually DO summer. We had perfected our picnics, sussed out the best beer gardens in the country and sunscreen sales were up by a massive 200%!
So, with another steamy summer approaching, how can we make this one even better? We could start by taking inspiration from the sun-drenched terraces of Tuscany, where alfresco dining and outdoor living comes as naturally there, as fish and chips under a brolly does in the UK. Imagine it now, you’re sitting outside in your garden with a chilled glass of wine in your hand. The sun is baking down and you’re flicking through the pages of a book whilst nibbling on warm bread and tasty olives. All you need to do to complete the scene is give your patio a bit of TLC, and with the trend for outdoor living hitting the high street, it’s much easier, and cheaper, than ever before.
Turn your patio into a terrace
Garden design has gone from strength to strength over the past few years and we are now seriously using our outside space as an extra room. Size isn't even an issue, just a few square feet can house a funky little bistro table and some artfully placed outdoor lighting, such as candles in glass or ceramic lanterns or pretty fairy lights disguised as flowers.
As for garden furniture, gone are the days of the obligatory white plastic table and chairs and beer garden style parasol. Exterior design has had a massive style injection over the last few years and garden furniture is now as considered as indoor furniture. More and more homes are now making the seamless transition from indoor to outdoor by installing bi-fold doors to create an extra living space in the home. Our Tuscany Colour Palette Range brings a touch of rustic Italian charm to your terrace, with a warm palette of colours ranging from a deep olive to a rich terracotta.
A garden for all seasons
Outdoor living doesn’t have to be restricted to heady mid-summer months, installing a wooden or metal framed awning can make relaxing on your terrace an option almost all year round. Invest in a few chunky blankets and throws, and a cosy firepit, and your evenings of alfresco eating are unlimited!
So, hold onto your sunhats, the roof is about to be lifted on outdoor living!
